Since its introduction in 1991 the Yamaha has sold over 62,000 TDM50ss in Europe and plans to sell about 10,000 of the 900s every year.
The main differences between the 2001 TDM850 and the new 2002 TDM900 are the increase in engine capacity to 897cc and the adoption of fuel injection, the frame is now aluminium reducing the weight of the machine. The rear suspension has been updated with a piggy back style rear shock and spring with more flexibility in adjustment. Many owners criticised the TDM850 for having only 5 gears, this has now been rectified with the new machine gaining a 6th gear. The very powerful brakes have been lifted straight off the R1 and are second to none.
Gone is the pillion grab rail, being replaced by a small carrier.
This is the type of bike you either hate or love at first sight, with its upright riding position and unique styling and character it should appeal to many. Useful performance for commuting in traffic and touring, the increase in power shows up in the mid range, but typical of a V-twin is nothing startling in the way of power delivery.
A good all rounder and a very capable machine that has proved reliable, making it very popular in Europe. Any information on this model you would like to see included you can send it here
