ST1100 Pan European

One of the best all round motorcycles available, with Honda’s 1084cc liquid cooled V-four motor its reliability is legendary and is the first choice for many motorcyclists who regularly do any kind of long distance travel. Its comfort and handling are not matched by many and bettered by even fewer.

With shaft drive, low maintenance requirements and long service intervals, this was designed to be a mile eater, and that is what it does. Many owners clocking up over 100,000 miles and some even 150,000 miles without major trouble, a feat we all wish we could do with our chosen bikes.

The ST1100 is available in 2 versions, with or without ABS brakes. The version with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) also hasST1100 ABS CBS (Combined Braking System) and TCS (Traction Control System).

The ABS has an electric motor driven modulator which adjusts braking pressure quickly and precisely enough to stop the wheels from locking under heavy braking or in adverse conditions.

The CBS incorporates a second master cylinder and a control valve to link the front and rear brake calipers, using either brake control on its own partially activates all three calipers, but the rider can control the braking force depending on which control is used. As normal, all the brakes come into operation when both controls are used together.

The TCS uses the same wheel sensors to control the power output of the engine by retarding the ignition timing to prevent rear wheel spin under heavy acceleration or on loose or poor grip road surfaces.

The engine has belt-driven camshafts for quiet, smooth running and has proven reliable. 4-valves per cylinder with shim and bucket adjustments allows for high engine speed reliability and fewer service requirements. Ignition is digital electronic.

5-speed gearbox drives through damped hydraulic clutch, main shaft and drive shaft all reducing noise, vibration and lash in the driveline.

ST1100 BlueSuspension has 43mm cartridge forks (41mm non ABS model) fitted with TRAC (Torque Reactive Anti-dive Control), which reduces the amount of dive during braking. Single shock absorber at the rear has adjustments for preload and rebound damping.

3 spoke cast aluminium wheels are fitted with ZR (200mph) rated radials as standard.

28-litre fuel tank is under the seat to lower the centre of gravity and gives an easy 250 miles before a refill is required. There is no reserve.

Colour matched luggage is standard and is detachable and lockable with the bike’s key. Capacity is around 35 litres and will take a full-face helmet each and room to spare.

Instruments include a quartz clock, fuel and temperature gauges, and hazard warning lights.

Now available as the ST1300.
